The Rochester Housing Authority says it’s discovered that third party ads appear at the top of the list when someone searches for the authority’s Section 8 waiting list.
That list was opened yesterday for the first time since 2009 and lots of people want to apply for housing assistance. But the RHA warns if you click the first link that appears, you’ll be diverted to an official looking site that asks for your personal information, then tries to charge you money to file an application.
That’s NOT the Rochester Housing Authority, and you don’t have to pay to file an application. Authority Chairman George Moses says people trying to apply online should make sure they’re actually at “rochesterhousing.org” and not at one of the fake sites like “sectioneightapplication.com.” Or call the RHA directly.
