A Honeoye Falls woman is dead after a house fire late last night trapped her on the second floor.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says they were called shortly after 10:30 Thursday night to 1918 State Route 65, near the corner of Quaker Meetinghouse Road. There they found the rear of the house completely engulfed in flames ad smoke. One resident was able to escape through the front, but the second, a woman in her 80s, was found unconscious at the top of the stairs.

Firefighters got her out of the house, but she was pronounced dead at the scene due to smoke inhalation. Her name has not yet been released.

Two of the family pets died in the fire. One was saved. No firefighters were hurt.

The Ontario County Fire Investigator says the blaze apparently started in the kitchen. The cause is still under investigation. Equipment and crews from four fire companies were involved in putting it out. The house was heavily damaged.
