The Greater Rochester Association of Realtors says the number of homes sold last year in the Rochester area hit a new high.

GRAR Covers Greater Rochester, the Finger Lakes and part of the Southern Tier. It says 14,278 homes were sold in 2016. That’s an increase of more than 19 percent over 2015 sales and tops the previous record year of 2005, with about 13,300 closings.

Association President Linda Wilson says fewer homes were actually up for sale, but many more of the ones that were available sold. The City of Rochester had a 19 percent gain in home sales, Gates a 31 percent increase and Henrietta a four percent drop.

Home prices held steady across the region. Monroe County’s median home sale price went up slightly, from $132,000 to $133,000.
