The State Senate has passed the home rule message allowing Monroe County to dismantle the controversial Local Development Corporations.

The three corporations were set up by the former county administration to manage large public works projects, including the modernization of the county’s emergency communications system for first responders. They were supposed to be more efficient and save taxpayers money, but they ended up with a bid-rigging scandal, an investigation by the State Attorney General and four public officials and businessmen hauled into court.

County Executive Cheryl Dinolofo campaigned on dismantling the LDCs. She hopes to have it done by the end of the year.
