The woman accused of fatally shooting an Orleans County woman in Brockport last year has pleaded “not responsible by reason of mental defect,” and a report from the state will help determine how long she remains in a secure psychiatric facility.

Holly Colino was in court Monday after being found mentally competent to stand trial.

Colino is accused of randomly shooting Megan Dix of Lyndonville while Dix ate her lunch, sitting in her truck in a parking lot. Colino was sent to a mental health facility after her arrest, where experts both for the state and the defense found her to be suffering from a schizoaffective disorder at the time of the shooting.

The State Commissioner of Mental Health is expected to issue an opinion on whether Colino suffers from a dangerous mental disorder.

She’ll be back in court on December 11th.
