The suspect accused of holding up a convenience store in Phelps on Tuesday was arrested Wednesday morning in Seneca County.
Sheriff Kevin Henderson says Brandon Burgess was caught after a tip to law enforcement placed him in a car with another person. That car was spotted and pulled over in Seneca Falls, and Burgess was captured after a brief foot chase.
Henderson says police were concerned in this case over social media posts made by the suspect in which he talked vaguely about “the hunt is on” and threats of violence.
Schools in Lyons, Newark and Williamson went into lockdown Tuesday during the manhunt for Burgess, which began when he used a long gun to hold up a 7-Eleven store on Route 14.
There was concern that Henderson might want to use a series of crimes to become a social media sensation, and police acted accordingly.
