Governor Kathy Hochul said Thursday that 32 hospitals across the state are now delaying elective surgical procedures because of a surge of COVID patients leaving few available hospital beds.

Hochul says the surgical postponement will be re-examined on January 15th and may be dropped or extended at that time, depending on the numbers of free hospital beds available.

Emergency surgeries and treatments for diseases including cancer and heart disease remain available.
