Most of us got an inch to four inches of snow overnight depending on the distance from Lake Ontario. We’re still under a Winter Storm Warning until 8:00 Wednesday night, bringing moderate to heavy snow and blowing snow.

Four-to-eight inches should be on the ground by dark, about the same again overnight and another three-to-six inches tomorrow before the system finally works its way out of here. Or three-to-four driveway shovelings, if you want to put it that way.

Despite the snow, there are still crews out working to connect the
last 3,000 RG&E customers who lost electric service in last week’s Wind Storm of 2017.

The Gates Town Hall flew the Canadian Flag today in honor of the Quebec Hydro crews who came to help restore power in the Rochester area. Utility workers from six states and three Canadian provinces worked to get the power back on. The remaining hard-to-reach and remote buildings should be reconnected today.

Town, City and State highway crews made the transition last night from clearing fallen trees and debris to snow plowing and salt runs. There have been a fair number of crashes on slick roads. Everything is passable if you remember the winter driving rules…slow down and be ready. This guy didn’t and ended up off the side of 390 in Livingston County.

NYS Thruway Authority

In this case the snow gets lighter as you go west. Buffalo has wet roads. Conditions are worse the further east you go, with some blizzard conditions downstate. Governor Cuomo has declared a state of emergency for all of New York and bans were put in place overnight keeping tractor-trailers off the Thruway, the Southern Tier Expressway, I-81 and the other interstates running through the eastern part of New York.

All of Broome County is under a full travel ban. It’s not a good day to drive to Albany or New York City. Parts of that region are expecting two feet to 30 inches of snow by tomorrow evening.
