A woman has died of her injuries after she was seriously injured this morning in a hit-and-run accident at the edge of the University of Rochester campus. Family members say she was 38-year-old Jill Skivington Jackett, a teacher at Wheatland Chili High School, but police haven’t confirmed that.

Police say she was crossing Elmwood Avenue near Wilson Boulevard when she was hit by an eastbound car. That car kept on going and police say their only clue at this point is that it was dark colored. Police said Thursday evening that they’re not sure the driver realized they hit someone. They also said there’s video security coverage of the area and they hope to identify the car.

The victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital just up the road where she later died.

Police closed off Elmwood Avenue between Genesee Street and Kendrick Road for their investigation.
