A hit and run driver was beaten down over the weekend by an angry crowd after he tried to run away from the accident scene.
Rochester police say the driver was driving south at the corner of Thurston Road and Chili Avenue when he tried to pass two cars, but side-swiped both of them. He then ran a red light and was hit by a car passing through the intersection, the impact driving both vehicles into a third car.
The driver of the offending car tried to run away, but was surrounded by a crowd and beaten unconscious by the time police arrived. The 31-year-old suspect was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment, as well as the other two drivers in the crash. Both of them are in stable condition.
Police are still investigating and no charges have been filed yet.
