The Hilton Fire Department warns that it may take 20 minutes for an ambulance to arrive from a neighboring community after the Village Board voted to stop funding an advanced life support ambulance at the fire house.

The village said it will save taxpayers money, and Monroe Ambulance will provide service to Hilton and the Town of Parma. But Hilton Fire Chief Phil Carris said in a letter to the community that the wait for an ambulance to arrive from a neighboring town is a bad idea.

Carris is proposing a special tax district be set up to fund the ambulance service, saying it would cost only about $6 per household per month.

The village says it’s too late to set up a special tax district for next year. The Hilton ambulance service ends on December 31st.
