The National Weather Service records 1.38 inches of rain for Rochester on Thursday, which is a lot, but still shy of the record 1.75 inches set in 1888. We also had half-an-inch of snow.
This week’s high rainfall has caused flooding in Ellison Park from Irondequoit Creek, and Monroe County officials say the park is temporarily closed. The dog park, all lodges, shelters and athletic fields are inaccessible due to high water until further notice.
Lower Seneca Park was also closed today after a tree branch fell on power lines. The zoo remains open.
Meanwhile, the Brook Lea Country Club has developed a new water hazard on its greens, according to Gates Supervisor Mark Assini:
The weather service says Irondequoit Creek and Allen Creek crested at between nine and 9.5 feet Thursday night and are gradually dropping today. Flood watches are lifted as of 11:45, but high water is still likely in Brighton, Penfield and Pittsford as well as East Rochester.
