The Town of Greece has issued a State of Emergency as flood waters begin rising along Lake Ontario. Northeast winds are bringing the waves rolling ashore again.
Supervisor Bill Reilich says in a statement that there’s no travel ban…but police are restricting travel on Edgemere Drive and other waterfront roads to residents only. Edgemere was closed this evening west of Dewey Avenue, with the road completely under water at the bottom of the hill next to the Water Authority pumping station. Flood-weary homeowners further west were bracing for the worst.
Water was touching the bottom of the Beach Avenue bridge over Slater Creek, and waves were splashing over the pavement.
The National Weather Service maintains a Lakeshore Flood Warning for the Lake Ontario coastline in Monroe, Orleans and Niagara Counties until 11:00 Wednesday morning.
