Officials of both Rochester Regional Health and UR Medicine say they will dedicate existing buildings for patients who are recovering from COVID-19, but might still be infectious and therefore can’t return to their nursing homes.

The plan will protect both the nursing home patients, and the area’s hospital capacity by freeing up hospital beds.

13 WHAM says it’s seen a memo from Rochester Regional Health saying one of the facilities will be at the Hill Haven Campus in Penfield. Recovering COVID patients will stay there until they test negative for the virus; then they an return to their regular nursing homes.

UR Medicine is also looking into such an option.
