The Pentagon has awarded Rochester’s Harris Corporation a $255 million contract to manufacture high-tech portable military radio gear.
Senator Charles Schumer’s Office says the communications gear will be made for United States Special Operations units and also for American allies. They’ll help Special Forces receive and send intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data including full motion video. The new gear will replace current equipment by June of 2023. Schumer says it will be used on some of the military’s toughest missions.
Most of the work will be done at the Harris plant in Rochester, supporting local jobs and the economy.
