A World War II veteran who became known as “Harmonica Pete” has died at the age of 98.
Pete Dupre of Fairport was an army medic during the Battle of the Bulge. He began playing the harmonica in the 1930s and called it his “right arm.” In later years, he became known for playing the National Anthem on that harmonica for a range of sporting events, parades and community celebrations.
His biggest crowd was nearly 30,000 people at the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team game against Mexico in 2019. He played for the team again last July for another match against Mexico.
