Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter says both victims found in a burned-out car in Hamlin on Monday morning had been shot.

They’re not releasing specifics or the cause of death at this time, but Baxter identified the dead as 18-year-old Bruce Kane of Sweden and 20-year-old Alexander Burrow of Clarkson.  Both were graduates of Brockport High School.

Chief Deputy Mike Fowler says the burned car belonged to Kane’s father. Both men say investigators are working closely with the families and are attempting to control rumors about the crime which have been flying around social media. They say accurate information is being developed, but it will take some time, particularly in the case of Monroe County Crime Lab test results.

Deputies are particularly interested in the period between 11:00 Sunday night and 1:30 Monday morning. And they want to speak with the driver of a dark-colored pickup truck they believe may have seen or heard something in the area where the bodies were found.

Fowler says they believe the driver of that truck may have been going to nearby Crosby’s Store early Monday morning when they realized it was closed and turned around. That was during the time investigators are most interested in.
