Two Hamlin teenagers have been charged with first degree assault after a confrontation that turned into a stabbing incident late Saturday night on the West Fork of Lake Road.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says three young men were walking along the road together when they passed 30-year-old Edward Hecht of Hamlin, who was sitting on the patio outside 102 Hamlin Terrace. An argument started between Hecht and the three teenagers, Devin and Austin Manning and their friend Todd Ward.

Investigators say Hecht began to follow the teens and started a fight with the 17-year-old Ward at the corner of Lake and Brick Schoolhouse Roads. Hecht knocked the younger man into the ditch, at which Ward pulled out a knife and stabbed him. Devin Manning, who is also 17, grabbed his knife and stabbed Hecht in the back as he lay on to of his friend. Sixteen-year-old Austin Manning wasn’t involved in the fight.

Deputies found Hecht sitting on a picnic table back outside his residence. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to recover. Ward was treated for a laceration to his head.

Both Ward and Devin Manning have been arraigned in Hamlin Court and are being held on $25,000 bail.
