A near 12-hour standoff between a man and Monroe County deputies in Hamlin ended Monday morning when the man took his own life.
The standoff began with a fight between neighbors on Curtisdale Lane that sent one man to the hospital. Deputies said in a Sunday night briefing that the fight was between several neighbors. During it, the man who barricaded himself stabbed a neighbor in the chest, then retreated into his own home.
The victim was taken to the hospital and deputies urged neighbors to shelter in place or evacuate. The suspect was believed to have several long guns. There were no hostages.
The suspect took his own life between midnight and 1:00 Monday morning.
