It’s been a year since work began on Rochester’s new $30 million rail and intercity bus station, and halfway through the two year construction project the steelwork for
the new building is in, and work is well underway on the new tracks and platforms.The station is scheduled to open a year from now. It
will replace a temporary trailer station that itself replaced a prefab “temporary” station that was first put up in the 1970s.
The new tracks will let trains board and unload passengers without blocking passing trains on the running tracks. For now, eastbound trains have to back up for two miles before switching back to the main line until the track work is complete.
