Flower City Habitat for Humanity breaks ground today (Wed) on its 239th Rochester home, the largest it’s ever built.

The organization is building the 1,600 square foot home for the Abdulahi family, refugees from Somalia who spent eight years in a Kenyan refugee camp before finally being granted asylum in the United States. The family has been here since 2004, but the family of 12 has not had a stable home in that time. The family has had to live in separate apartments since many low-income housing properties can only accommodate up to nine people in one unit.

The house is due to be completed in 2020 on 96 Holworthy Street.
