A Rochester police officer fired a shotgun during a drug raid at 77 Rustic Street in Rochester today. All three shots fired missed the suspect, and nobody was hurt by gunfire.
A statement from Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli says the Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Enforcement Team was executing a search warrant , looking for untaxed cigarettes and drugs. As the search team entered the house, a man inside pointed a shotgun at a Rochester police investigator. The investigator responded by firing three times, after which the suspect was arrested.
Police charged 56-year-old Robert Herrington of 77 Rustic Street with Menacing A Police Officer and Possession of Untaxed Cigarettes For Sale.
Chief Ciminelli says the investigator has been assigned to administrative duties per department policy and the department is running both internal and criminal investigations on the incident.
