Monroe County officials and many who led the fundraising drive for a community War on Terror Memorial broke ground for the memorial on Memorial Day. The small ceremony was conducted with social distancing in mind and broadcast on TV and the internet.

The memorial is to be built starting next year. It will honor those who gave their lives during America’s fight against terrorism from 1990 to the present. It will be built at Highland Park, next to the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial.
