Rochester’s Cornerstone Group and New York State Homes and Community Renewal have joined in breaking ground for the $11.8 million Frances Apartments in the Town of Sweden.
The 56-unit affordable housing project is due for completion in about a year. It will have eight two-story buildings, including a community center. Fourteen units will be reserved for people with developmental disabilities, who will be served by staff from the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities and Lifetime Assistance.
The state is putting $1.8 million into the project and will subsidize rents for the people in the assisted living units. It’s part of the effort to get people with developmental issues out of institutions.
The developers say they’re grateful to have received overwhelming support from the town.
