Greece Police Car-2Papers filed in federal court say the Town of Greece has reached a settlement with its insurance company, which wouldn’t cover the entire cost of settling a couple of police misconduct lawsuits. The terms of the settlement aren’t given.

The suits were filed by two women who claimed they were sexually abused by former Greece Police Officer Gary Pignato. They sued Pignato, former Police Chief Merritt Rahn and the town. The town settled both cases last year, reportedly for about $900,000.

Pignato and Rahn were later tried, convicted and served time in prison; Pignato for sexual abuse and misusing his office and Rahn for trying to cover up Pignato’s crime and another officer’s.

The Democrat and Chronicle says it’s seen court records that show the town has settled its dispute with Lloyd’s of London, which refused to cover the full cost of the settlements.  Both sides have until July 29th to file comments.
