The Greece Central School District says it doesn’t have the money budgeted that Greece Town Officials are now asking for the use of two police officers as school resource officers.
According to an interview with News Source 13, School Board President Sean McCabe says the district paid $190,000 to have the two officers in town schools last year. They budgeted $240,000 for this school year after conferring with the town, but McCabe says Town Supervisor Bill Reilich informed him the cost would now be $350,000. McCabe says the school district doesn’t have it. The budget is written in the spring and approved by voters in May.
The town says $350,000 is necessary to cover benefits, health insurance, disability and other required payments for the two officers. The town says it’s been covering the school district’s costs for these payments but is no longer willing to do it.
