The Town of Greece has launched a petition on the “Whitehouse-dot-gov” website, seeking President Trump’s help in overturning Plan 2014. Lakeshore property owners blame the current flooding on the joint U.S. and Canadian plan which changed the way the Great Lakes are regulated.
Plan 2014 was designed to let Lake Ontario rise and fall more naturally with the seasons rather than trying to hold a consistent lake level. The International Joint Commission, which spent years hammering out the plan and getting it through U.S. and Canadian approval, says the flooding is because of record-high spring rains.
The petition seeks 100,000 signatures calling for a return to the former plan. Greece Supervisor Bill Reilich says it’s one more thing they’re trying to get some relief for lake shore property owners.
