Seven Greece police officers face disciplinary action because of their involvement in the crash that cost former Greece Police Chief Drew Forsythe his job
The Town Board received an overview Thursday night of recommendations that will be issued in a report by Special Investigator Joseph Morabito, who was commissioned to investigate the circumstances of the crash and its aftermath. The town says Thursday night that ten officers were investigated because they either worked the scene of the accident involving the former chief or were otherwise involved in the situation.
A statement from the town says three of the officers have been completely exonerated. But disciplinary action or demotion is recommended for the other seven.
The town says Forsythe placed all the members of the department in a difficult position, but, unfortunately, each of the seven officers failed to follow policy and protocol in some way. The investigator found that a reasonable officer would have found reasonable suspicion to alcohol test Forsythe at the scene. Additionally, information about what happened was not reported completely or in a timely manner to town officials.
The officers may chose to accept the discipline recommended by the investigator. If they don’t, they will be served with charges under town law and entitled to a hearing.
