Vincent Manillo of Greece has been sentenced to eight weekends in jail and five years of probation for the accidental death of 87-year-old Joan Dierna.
Manillo was driving a truck hauling a dumpster on Bay View Road a year ago when an unsecured door on the dumpster swung open. The door hit Dierna as she stood by the side of the road checking her mailbox. Manillo said he was unaware the accident had happened, and there were no witnesses. But security cameras on neighboring houses caught the truck and police were able to track the driver.
The 63-year-old Manillo was charged with criminally negligent homicide and pleaded guilty.
