A Greece man is in critical condition after another man trying to get away from a robbery attempt accidentally ran him down with a car.
Gates Police say they were called to a plaza on Elmgrove Road where they found 31-year-old Donald Kipp of Greece had been run over by vehicle. He was taken to the hospital with severe head injuries. The driver had fled the scene.
Once they found the car and driver, they learned that 18-year-old Dawson Marshall of Greece had been sitting in the car in the parking lot when a third man smashed his side window and grabbed him by the throat. Thirty-two-year old Michael Paeth of Greece then tried to rob the younger man.
Marshall told police he hit the gas and tried to drive off, but hit the Rochester man in the process.
Marshall has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and Paeth with attempted robbery, criminal mischief, and assault. Police also charged Paeth with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after they found he drove to the plaza although his license had been suspended 30 times.
Bail for Paeth has been set at $50,000. Marshall’s bail is $1,000.
