The Monroe County Health Department says it may have been the gravy that made at least 260 people sick after they ate Thanksgiving Dinner at the Golden Ponds Restaurant in Greece.
Lab reports have come back saying a bacterium called Clostridium Perfringens was found in samples of the gravy and in samples from the people who became ill. Some had eaten at the restaurant and others had arranged to take out their Thanksgiving dinner from the Golden Ponds.
On November 25th a health inspector noted 17 violations at the restaurant including spilled food and mold on the walls and floor of the walk-in refrigerator and mildew inside the ice maker.
The restaurant has been closed since Thanksgiving. It’s been cleaned up and given the green light to re-open, but the owner hasn’t announced a date yet.
