The former 14th-round pick batted .470 and reached base at a .527 clip in 29 games.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Rochester Red Wings outfielder Zack Granite has been named the International League Player of the Month for June, the league office announced Saturday.
Granite led the league with a .470 batting average, 55 hits, 16 extra-base hits, 23 runs scored, 78 total bases, a .527 on-base percentage and a 1.193 OPS in June. He also ranked among the minor league leaders in batting average (1st), hits (1st), on-base percentage (1st), plate appearances (132, T-1st), total bases (2nd), games (29, T-3rd), at-bats (117, T-3rd), OPS (4th), doubles (11, T-5th), runs scored (T-6th) and extra-base hits (T-9th) for the month. The 24-year-old was rewarded with his first mid-season All-Star selection earlier this week.
Granite reached base safely in all 29 games he played in June, tied for the longest on-base streak in the league this season and the longest such stretch by a Red Wing since Chris Colabello reached in 36 consecutive games from May 9-June 28, 2013. Granite collected a hit in 28 of 29 June games while tallying multiple hits in 20 of those. He hit in 17 straight games from June 1-18, the longest hitting streak for a Wing since Danny Valencia hit in 20 consecutive games from April 24-May 16, 2010.
For the season, Granite paces the league with a .367 batting average and a .419 on-base percentage. His batting average is 50 points higher than any other qualified IL batter and ranks third among all minor leaguers.
