Governor Andrew Cuomo’s chief counsel has written to the head of New York’s Public Service Commission, asking the PSC to compel Charter Communications to expand its broadband internet service across the state.

Charter is the parent company of Spectrum, which recently bought out Time-Warner cable. Part of the deal which got the state to buy into the merger was Charter’s promise to build out its broadband service to areas that didn’t currently have high-speed internet available. Charter also promised to maintain Time-Warner’s skilled workforce.

Attorney Alphonso David says the governor’s office is aware that internet service expansion hasn’t begun, and that a strike has diminished Charter’s workforce. He’s asking the PSC to direct Charter to meet its obligations.
