Governor Kathy Hochul has signed the legislation creating New York’s first marijuana growing law, allowing New York hemp farmers to apply for a conditional license to grow cannabis as well.

The Conditional Adult-use Cannabis Cultivator license applies to this year’s growing season and gets the legal cultivation of marijuana underway in the state.

The state is trying to build cannabis into a legitimate industry and get it out of the hands of criminal suppliers.
