Cuomo-State of State 2016Governor Cuomo has ordered hate crime investigations by the New York State Police and the State Division of Human Rights into a pair of recent incidents, one in the Village of Geneseo and the other in the Southern Tier.

The governor’s office says a dorm RA at SUNY Geneseo’s Nassau Residence Hall found a swastika and the name “Trump” on a wall on Friday. Shortly before that, a softball field dugout in Wellsville was defaced with the words “Make America White Again, accompanied by a spray-painted swastika.

The governor says in a statement that New York has zero tolerance for bigotry, fear and hatred. He says those who say otherwise are trying to undermine New York and America’s core values. Cuomo says when investigators find who sprayed the graffiti they’ll be held to the fullest extent of the law.

New York has tough anti-hate crime legislation adopted in 2000.
