Republican challenger Cheryl Rozzi says a slip at the Monroe County Clerk’s Office raises doubts about Democratic Clerk Adam Bello’s plan to allow electronic filing of court documents.
Rozzi says Bello’s staff failed to redact Social Security
numbers of local residents on seven or eight of the documents available to the public since this summer on the Clerk’s Online Database. She says the error raises concerns about privacy and security.
Rozzi says she notified Bello’s office of what she found before going public.
County Clerk Bello says his staff has been finding this sort of mistake ever since he took over from the previous administration. Bello calls this an unfortunate consequence of not investing in new technology and upgrades, and says he’s already had new software installed that will prevent this from happening again.
Bello also says the social security numbers were taken down at once after his office was made aware of the problem.
