Philanthropist Tom Golisano has pledged $5 million to support a new Pediatric Behavior and Wellness Center for UR Medicine. The University of Rochester says it will be a critically-needed home base for child and adolescent behavioral health services.
The Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness Program will be based in the new building. It treats children suffering from depression, anxiety, substance abuse and psychosis. The $10 million building will be located near South Avenue and Science Parkway in Rochester, near Strong Memorial Hospital.
Mark Taubman, the CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center, says Rochester has a shortage of such services for young people. He says the Golisano gift will effectively double the treatment space and program. That will reduce the number of children waiting for services.
The expansion should be completed in 2019.
