UR Medicine’s Golisano Children’s Hospital cut the ribbon today on the William and Mildred Levine Autism Clinic. It’s a center designed by the clinic team, patients and families of children with autism to provide a new approach to care.
It’s the first time in the Rochester area that specialists in autism, child and adolescent psychiatry and neuromedicine are all working in the same space, caring for children and teens together. The multidisciplinary approach streamlines care and makes it easier to tailor a plan for each patient’s needs.
The interior is also designed to be a calming and comfortable place for those whose autism makes them react badly to noise and bustle.
More than 500 children in the Rochester region were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder last year.
