Governor Cuomo says General Motors will invest $334 million dollars modernizing plants in Tonawanda, Lockport and Rochester with new machinery and equipment. Nearly $6 million of that money will be invested in Rochester. Cuomo and GM officials made the announcement at the GM Tonawanda plant in Buffalo.

The Buffalo-area plant will be making a new engine for SUVs. GM says it will retain existing jobs, and gradually add about 400 new ones to a total of 1,261 jobs. The Rochester investment will go into production of future powertrain components, and it’s expected to be complete in 2018.

The governor thanked GM and the leadership of the United Auto Workers union for coming together with the state to make this happen.
