A teenager did something right before she left on a hike that left her stranded in Northampton Park in Ogden on Sunday: she told her family where she was going.

Without that, Spencerport firefighters say they might have gone a lot longer before they were able to locate and rescue the girl, who fell into a creek and couldn’t get back out. The girl called for help by cellphone but wasn’t sure of her location. FIrst responders talked with her father about her plan for the hike and got an idea of where to look for her.

Firefighters were able to locate her and bring her out of the woods. She was taken to the hospital and will be OK.
