Exelon Corporation says the Ginna Nuclear Power Plant is back up and generating electricity, successfully completing a refueling outage that began in late April.
Operators brought the plant back online yesterday after more than 900 additional workers completed the refueling and maintenance on the veteran nuclear plant.
New York State reached agreement with Exelon to subsidize the power from Ginna and the Fitzpatrick nuclear stations on Lake Ontario as part of its carbon-reduction plan to reduce use of fossil fuels. Exelon had been planning to decommission the reactors as no longer economically competitive with cheap natural gas.
