The artistic director of Geva Theater has sent a formal letter of apology to Mayor Lovely Warren, after he used the word “naive” this week to describe the Rochester mayor’s comments about the need for the downtown performing arts center on Parcel 5.

The mayor took offense yesterday, saying she wouldn’t address Geva’s concerns over how the center will be funded until she got an apology. Late this afternoon, Geva’s Mark Cuddy put his name to an apology. Cuddy says it was not his objective to demean the mayor in any way, and he hopes they can continue to contribute to making Rochester a vibrant city.

A Geva spokeswoman says the organization has no further comment at this time.
