The George Eastman Museum is preparing for a major upgrade. The museum says it will shut down on December 18th to prepare for groundbreaking on a new visitor center January 6th.
The new ESL Federal Credit Union Pavilion will relocate the museum’s main entrance to the west side of the building. It’s the biggest change since the gallery wing was added in 1989. It will be a glass and steel structure in front of the current museum cafe and shop, in what was originally George Eastman’s garage.
There will be new reception areas, a renovated meeting hall and screening room and a relocated cafe.
The museum will reopen in February of 2020 while construction is underway.
