The woman stabbed while shopping at the Geneseo WalMart Tuesday afternoon was released from the hospital Wednesday morning and is recovering at home. Meanwhile, the man who allegedly stabbed her, Gregory Cunningham of Schuyler County, pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree attempted murder and assault.

The 24-year-old Cunningham was shopping with members of his family that he had recently reunited with, according to Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian, when he walked up behind the victim and stabbed her repeatedly. He said Cunningham was following the victim when he was arrested without incident. He described the attacker as acting “nonchalant.”

Chief Osganian said they can’t find any connection between Cunningham and the victim, and they haven’t found any signs of suspicious behavior in his social media.
