Geneseo Central School Superintendent Tim Hayes says a drug-taking incident on the Geneseo High School varsity football team came under investigation right after the game Friday night, with players interviewed on Saturday. The school forfeited the rest of the season’s games and dismissed the half-dozen or so players who were involved.

Hayes had praise for players who spoke out about what happened in the locker room before the game. For those who allegedly took drugs in that incident, he says there may be legal ramifications for the players who did. He called them “students who made some very poor choices.” Both Geneseo Police and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department are investigating.

Hayes never confirmed what police have said: that a team member or members took prescription painkillers from their parents without permission and shared them with other players. But he said the loss of their season is unfortunate for the team members who weren’t involved, and who spoke up about what happened.
