Geneseo Police and other law enforcement agencies are reportedly investigating after the Geneseo Central School District announced its high school varsity football team was forfeiting the rest of its season due to alleged drug use by some team members.
Some members of the team allegedly used drugs before a game. 13 WHAM quotes Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian confirming that an investigation is underway after a player took Oxycontin from a parent without their consent. The pills were given to half-a-dozen team members before the game on Friday. That game against Bolivar-Richburg has been forfeited.
In a statement, Geneseo School Superintendent Timothy Hayes said a number of players have been dismissed from the team for “serious violations of the District’s Code of Conduct and Athletic Eligibility Standards.”
The district says the junior varsity and modified teams will continue their seasons.
