Officials in Geneseo say the granite basin that used to support the Geneseo Bear is beyond repair. The village is looking for a chunk of pink granite about 14 feet by three feet to carve into a replacement.
The bronze bear named “Emmeline” is in good shape and the sandstone pedestal she stood on can be restored. The bear was knocked over by a tractor-trailer that tried to squeeze through the village square and zigged when it should have zagged.
The bear is temporarily on display at the Livingston County Museum on Center Street.
