The first half-dozen of Genesee Brewing’s big fermentation tanks reached Lee Road in Gates Tuesday afternoon, where a 400 ton crane lifted them off the barges that carried them down the Erie Canal from Albany.
The remaining six of the massive tanks have tied up for the night in Pittsford, and will be pushed on down the canal to Gates Wednesday morning.
The 20 x 60 foot tanks will be trucked slowly down Lyell Avenue from Gates to the Genesee Brewery on St. Paul Street, two per day. Overhead power lines and traffic lights will have to be moved to clear the tanks on lowboy trailers.
Engineers from the company in China that made the tanks have arrived in Rochester and will supervise the move. The tanks are part of Genesee’s $40 million upgrade.
