The complex process of moving a dozen huge fermentation tanks from China to the Genesee Brewery in Rochester has nearly completed the Erie Canal phase, but it will be a day or two before they’re ready for the next phase: moving them through Rochester on trailers.
Genesee says only one more barge load of three tanks remains on the canal and is now due to arrive at Lee Road in Gates Thursday. But a Genesee spokesman says there are logistical details still being worked out before they can start moving the tanks the final stage down Lyell Avenue to the brewery. He now says that won’t happen today or tomorrow as first thought.
Those details include moving wires, traffic signals and other obstructions that wouldn’t clear the tanks as they move on city streets. Genesee says it’s crucial every detail be right before ground transportation can start.
