The massive fermentation tanks being shipped to Rochester’s Genesee Brewing have arrived in Albany via the Hudson River, and the barges are ready to be sent down the Erie Canal to Rochester. But like a lot of other things, getting them to the Flower City has been hampered by high water levels.
High water from the heavy spring rains are delaying shipment of the barges down the canal. The New York Canal Corporation thinks May 16th is the earliest they could leave Albany, but only if the water level goes down to acceptable levels.
The 20-by-60 foot tanks are part of the $50 million upgrade by North American Brewing of the Genesee brewery at Rochester’s High Falls. Each of the 12 tanks can brew 2,000 barrels of beer, or more than 661,400 bottles worth.
